RIVERDALE, NY – Senior Allie Yamashiro (Kapolei, HI) of the Manhattan College volleyball team has been selected as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Libero of the Week. She averaged 5.06 digs and 1.69 assists per set in four victories last week to earn a place on the Lafayette Invitational All-Tournament Team.
In the Jaspers' MAAC opener against Iona on Wednesday night, Yamashiro posted her first career double-double with 25 digs and a career-high 12 assists. She was also credited with a kill in the 3-1 win. Yamashiro then had 18 digs and five assists in a four-set victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday. After notching 21 digs and seven assists against Lafayette on Saturday morning, she concluded the tournament by tallying 17 digs against NJIT that evening. Manhattan clinched the tournament title with a 3-1 triumph over the Highlanders.
This is Yamashiro's 11th career MAAC Libero of the Week selection, and her first this season. She became Manhattan's all-time digs leader on Sept. 4 and is 16 digs shy of 2,000 for her career.
The Jaspers (4-10, 1-0 MAAC) return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. visit to defending MAAC champion Fairfield (9-5, 2-0 MAAC). It will be the first meeting between the squads since the Stags' five-set triumph in the 2015 MAAC Tournament semifinals.
