RIVERDALE, NY – Junior Danielle Gabriel (Island Heights, NJ) of the Manhattan College softball team has been selected as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week. She tossed six innings of shutout relief in the Jaspers' 3-2 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday.
Gabriel entered the contest in the second inning and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out six. She didn't allow a Pioneers base runner past second in the contest, as Manhattan came back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 win and doubleheader split.
She becomes the second Jasper to earn MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA) was selected on Feb. 23. In addition, Lauren Pitney (Ansonia, CT) was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on March 8 and Elena Bowman (San Mateo, CA) received a MAAC Player of the Week nod on March 22.
The Jaspers (11-8) conclude their four-game homestand on Wednesday with a 2 p.m. contest against Stony Brook (10-15-1) at Gaelic Park. It will be Manhattan's final game before the start of MAAC play this weekend.
