RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The 2013-14 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll was unveiled on Wednesday, and the Manhattan College women's basketball team was predicted to finish 10th in the conference by the league's 11 head coaches. The Jaspers received 34 points in the poll.
Manhattan returns three starters from last year's squad, including Second Team All-MAAC selection Monica Roeder (Marlton, N.J.) and MAAC All-Rookie Team honoree Shayna Ericksen (Hackettstown, N.J.).
Marist, which has won the past eight MAAC titles, was the unanimous pick to repeat, collecting all 11 first-place votes and 121 points. Iona was picked second with 106 points, while MAAC newcomer Quinnipiac, the 2013 Northeast Conference champions, placed third with 102 points. Fairfield took fourth with 86 points, followed by Rider (69), Canisius (54), Siena (51) and Niagara (47). Monmouth, the MAAC's other new member, tallied 43 points to finish ninth in the poll, and Saint Peter's rounded out the preseason rankings with 13 points.
The Jaspers host St. Mary's University from Halifax, Nova Scotia, in an exhibition contest at Draddy Gymnasium on Nov. 1. Manhattan's regular season opener is a matchup at Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 10.
