RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Following their first defeat in conference, the Manhattan Men's Soccer team returns home to Gaelic Park when they take on new Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Quinnipiac on Wednesday.
The Jaspers (2-8-1, 2-1-1 MAAC) are coming off a tough 1-0 loss at Rider on Saturday, snapping a three match unbeaten streak. The Broncs were able to get a late goal from Sonimi Halliday in the 82nd minute for the victory. Freshman Daniel Laguna Kennedy took a came high eight shots with three being on target, but couldn't find the back of the night for the first time in two games. Alex Coates McDowall made five saves in the loss and is now averaging 3.8 saves per game.
Quinnipiac (5-3-4, 3-0-1 MAAC) currently sits second in the league after a 2-1 win over Canisius this weekend. The Bobcats are on a five match unbeaten streak and are one of just two teams in the MAAC without a loss. Simon Hinde paces the offense with seven goals while James Doig is tops on the team with five assists. Goalkeeper Jason Vancura made his first career start against the Griffs, making seven saves in the shutout. Borja Angoitia had started the previous 11 contests, posting a 0.85 goals against average.
Manhattan will meet the Bobcats for the first time since the 2006 season when they earned a 2-1 victory. It is also just the third ever match between the two programs with Quinnipiac winning the inuagural contest in 2005.
