RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College senior guard Abby Wentworth (Portland, Maine) added another honor to her outstanding 2010-11 season on Friday when she was named First Team All-Metropolitan by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA).  She's the first Manhattan player selected to the All-Met first team since Rosalee Mason in 2003-04.  Wentworth will receive her award at the 78th annual NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner on Tuesday night.

Wentworth earned First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and MAAC All-Tournament Team selections after leading the Lady Jaspers to a school-record 24 wins in 2010-11.  Manhattan advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament for the first time since 2003 and played in the postseason for the first time in eight seasons, reaching the semifinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).

Wentworth led the MAAC with 4.2 assists per game while also ranking second in the league in steals (2.9 spg) and third in scoring (13.9 ppg).  She averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 5.0 steals in the MAAC Tournament.  Wentworth scored her 1,000th career point in the regular season finale at Iona on Feb. 27 and finished with 1,076 career points.  Manhattan's all-time leader in games played (121), she ranks second in program history in games started (108), fourth in steals (235) and eighth in assists (299).

MAAC Player of the Year Erica Allenspach of Marist was also selected as Metropolitan Player of the Year.  The rest of the All-Met First Team included Hofstra's Shante Evans, Long Island's Ashley Palmer, April Sykes of Rutgers and Da'Shena Stevens of St. John's.  Two other All-MAAC First Team players-Marist's Corielle Yarde and Fairfield's Taryn Johnson were named Second Team All-Met along with Army's Erin Anthony, Khadijah Rushdan of Rutgers and Shennika Smith of St. John's.

The NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner is the oldest annual college basketball awards dinner in the nation.  First and second teams are chosen on both the men's and women's sides in Divisions I, II and III from all schools within the tri-state area.
