RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College senior third baseman Chad Salem was named MAAC Baseball Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday at conference headquarters. Salem posted a .611 (11-for-18) batting average, recorded four doubles and drove in four runs in four games last week. He also registered a .632 on-base percentage and .833 slugging percentage.
The Rye, N.Y. native got the week started smashing three doubles and scoring two runs at cross-Bronx rival Fordham on Wednesday. Salem continued his hot hitting with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate which led Manhattan to a 5-2 victory over Notre Dame on Friday night at the 2011 Coca-Cola Classic hosted by Winthrop University. He registered three RBIs against the BIG EAST opponent leading the Jaspers to their second win of the year. In two games against the Fighting Irish, Salem went 7-for-10 at the plate.
Salem, a three-time All-MAAC selection, currently leads the MAAC in five offensive categories through seven games this season: batting average (.533), slugging percentage (.867), on-base percentage (.588), hits (16) and total bases (26). He ranks second in the conference with 11 RBIs.
