Monica Roeder Selected as MAAC Rookie of the Week

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Freshman guard/forward Monica Roeder (Marlton, N.J.) of the Manhattan College women's basketball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday.  She tallied a career-high 21 points in the Lady Jaspers' 64-54 victory over Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon.

Roeder went 7-for-13 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range and 3-for-4 at the free throw line against the Peahens.  After Saint Peter's trimmed a 20-point Manhattan advantage to two early in the second half, Roeder scored the next 11 points of the contest to bring the lead back to 13 points, 47-34.  She also had six rebounds and two assists in the game.

This marks the third time that Roeder has been recognized by the MAAC this season.  She was named MAAC Player of the Week on Nov. 15 after scoring 20 points against St. Francis (NY) in her collegiate debut.  Roeder also earned Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 13.

Manhattan (18-6, 10-3 MAAC) puts its six-game winning streak on the line Monday night, when Iona (9-16, 5-8 MAAC) visits Draddy Gymnasium at 7 p.m.  The contest will be the Lady Jaspers' annual "Pink Zone" game for breast cancer awareness, and fans will be given free admission with a donation to the American Cancer Society.
