FALUN, Sweden - At the Swedish National Championships on Friday night, former Manhattan College track & field star Malin Marmbrandt won the triple jump for her first career national title. She won the competition with a personal-best jump of 41 feet, 9½ inches (12.74 meters).
With the victory, Marmbrandt qualified for the Finnkampen, the Swedish national team's annual dual meet with Finland. The Finnkampen is a two-day meet that will be held on August 27-28 in Helsinki and Espoo, Finland.
"Malin has shown throughout her time here at Manhattan College to be an outstanding representative of both the athletic program and our school," Manhattan Head Coach Dan Mecca said. "She has also been an NCAA Academic All-American, as well as our school record holder in the long jump (the first woman over 20 feet in school history) and a MAAC champion both indoors and outdoors in both the long jump and triple jump."
At Manhattan, Marmbrandt won a combined 14 MAAC titles in the long jump & triple jump. In 2010, she set the school record in the long jump at the prestigious Penn Relays, while also claiming gold medals in both events at the ECAC Championships. A six-time MAAC All-Academic selection, Marmbrandt capped her Manhattan career with a 15th place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA East Regionals in June.
Marmbrandt is the second former Manhattan athlete to win a track & field National Championship this year. In June, Jake Freeman won his first U.S. national title in the hammer throw.
