Riverdale, N.Y. (August 16th, 2008) -- Manhattan College graduate Aliann Pompey ('99) ran a 50.99 in the preliminary round of the women's 400 meter dash to qualify for the semifinals of the event at the Olympic Games in Beijing. She is representing Guyana at the games and that team is coached by Manhattan College assistant track and field coach Joe Ryan.
Pompey's time of 50.99 is one of her best times ever, just missing her personal best of 50.92.
"She looks to be in great shape and Coach Ryan has done a great job of preparing for her third Olympic Games appearance," said Dan Mecca, Manhattan's track and field head coach.
She will race in semifinal 1 tomorrow (Sunday, Auigust 17th) at 9 a.m. Eastern time.
