FORMER JASPER CHRIS CODY MAKES PROFESSIONAL DEBUT WITH ONEONTA TIGERS

BOXSCORE

Riverdale, N.Y. (June 22, 2006)- Former Jasper Chris Cody made his professional debut last night, starting the second game of the season for the Oneonta Tigers of the Short Season A New York Penn League. Cody, an eighth round draft pick by the Detroit Tigers, went the first three innings of the game, while working on a strict pitch count.

Starting the game at home against the Tri-City ValleyCats, Cody faced Nathan Warrick to open the top of the first, and fanned Warrick looking for his first professional out. In what Manhattan fans have come to expect from Cody, the twirler worked two perfect innings to begin the game and his professional career. After recording an out to open the third, Cody allowed one walk and two singles to allow one run in the third, and left the game with the score tied 1-1.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Tigers' staff could not equal Cody's performance, as the ValleyCats downed Oneonta, 11-4.

The southpaw, who was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Year as we as a Second Team All-American, graduated from Manhattan following one of the finest seasons in Jasper baseball history, as his left arm guided Manhattan to its first ever MAAC Championship as well as the team's first ever NCAA Regional Finals appearance. The Brewster, N.Y. native bookended complete game wins over two ranked opponents during his senior campaign, blanking then #15 Tulane in the Jaspers' season opener before stymieing #6 Nebraska, 4-1, in the opener of the NCAA Regional.

Manhattan ended the 2006 season with a 34-23 record. The 34 wins is a program best, and equals the Manhattan College best by any sport.
