Stony Brook, N.Y. (April 23, 2006)- A great strike on a first half free kick from sophomore
Adam Kiley powered the Manhattan College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Stony Brook, the defending America East champions. The game was held Sunday at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium.
About 30 minutes into an evenly-played first stanza, Manhattan's
John Dellipriscoli was fouled just outside the penalty box. Using a carefully-scripted set play, Kiley hit a low shot into the right corner of the goal to give the Jaspers the only goal they would need.
The Jaspers held on gamely during the second half, playing a man down due to a red card given to defender
Bryan Knight just as the first half ended. Behind several tremendous second half saves from junior goalkeeper
David Mires, Manhattan staved off a series of offensive forays from the Seawolves.
Now with a spring season record of 3-3, the Jaspers complete their spring session next Saturday, as they participate in the Lafayette College Spring Classic, where they will play hosts Lafayette College and Muhlenberg College.
