Riverdale, N.Y. (November 20, 2006)?Manhattan College freshman guard Jenna Franciosa was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 19, it was announced by the conference today.
The Ardsley, N.Y. native averaged 8.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the field over two games as she helped the Lady Jaspers to a third place finish in this past weekend's St. Bonaventure Shootout in Elmira, N.Y. In Saturday's game against the University at Buffalo, Franciosa was the team's co-leading scorer with 10 points on three of eight shooting in 30 minutes of action. In Sunday's 65-51 win over Columbia, she scored six points, had three rebounds, and two blocks in 27 minutes. Franciosa is the third Lady Jasper in as many years to be named Rookie of the Week, joining teammates Joann Nwafili and Caitlin Flood who won the award in 2004-05, and Kelly Regan last season.
Manhattan, with a 2-2 record, returns to action Friday afternoon at Draddy Gym when they take on defending America East champions the University of Hartford. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
