The Manhattan College Men's Soccer team opened its five-date spring season on Saturday, March 26 with two games at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ.
In the first game, against St. Francis-NY, the Jaspers looked dangerous throughout, but couldn't find the back of the net and had to settle for a 0-0 tie against the Terriers. Manhattan goalkeeper
Collin Leaver looked sharp in net, and midfielders
Josh Swett and
Tommy Lenhardt provided an excellent spark in the midfield.
In the day's second game, the Jaspers gave up a first half goal to Monmouth and couldn't recover, losing 1-0 to the Hawks. The Jaspers had a chance to tie in the game's last two minutes but a shot by Daniel Cipriano off an excellent
Justin Schultz pass was saved well by the Monmouth keeper. Solid defense throughout the match was provided by
Kevin Martin,
Adam Kiley,
Brian Lundy, and
Joe Pumo.
Looking ahead, the men's soccer squad will play in the Lafayette College Spring Tournament on April 9th in Easton, PA, meeting host Lafayette and Muhlenberg College in the tournament's preliminary round. On April 16th, the Jaspers head to Stony Brook, NY for a round robin event and then finish their spring season on April 23rd with games at Hofstra University against the host school and Fordham University.
