RIVERDALE, NY (June 10, 2003) - Manhattan College Athletic Director Bob Byrnes announced today the hiring of former Lady Jasper softball standout Jennifer Fisher to the position of Head Softball Coach. Fisher replaces Lois Kahl, who resigned after one season with the Lady Jaspers.
Fisher was a two-sport athlete at Manhattan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1999. She is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Humanistic Education at the State University at New Paltz.
Fisher earned numerous awards for her athletic and academic achievements throughout her career. In 1996 she was named MAAC Rookie of the Year and as a freshman was named to the All-MAAC First Team. Fisher also earned All-MAAC First Team notice as a sophomore, junior and a senior. In addition, Fisher was named to the GTE Academic All-American Third Team and earned the Chase National Invitation Tournament Scholar Athlete Award. In her senior season at Manhattan, Fisher captained the Lady Jaspers to their first-ever MAAC championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Upon graduation from Manhattan, Fisher began her coaching career at Millbrook Junior/Senior High School in Millbrook, New York where she mentored the varsity girls volleyball, basketball and softball teams. Most recently, Fisher spent this past season as the Assistant Coach at MAAC rival Marist College. The Red Foxes narrowly missed the conference tournament, finishing with a MAAC record of 7-9.
In 2001-02, Fisher competed for the Stratford Brakettes of the Amateur Softball Association and helped the team win the Class A National Championship of the ASA Women's Major Fastpitch League.
Fisher inherits a team which won only eight games in 2003 and finished 10th in the MAAC standings with a mark of 3-13.
