BOCA RATON, FL (March 20, 2003) - The Manhattan College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Liberty, 6-3, and Florida Atlantic, 15-0, Thursday at FAU Field. Manhattan falls to 1-6 on the season.
The Lady Jaspers broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning with three runs.
Christina Buyea drove in two runs and
Suzanne Masotto knocked in one to put Manhattan up 3-0. But Liberty answered back with six runs in the bottom of the inning which held up for the final margin.
Brianne Illanovsky suffered the loss as she fall to 0-3 on the season.
In the second game of the day against Florida Atlantic, the Lady J's managed just two basehits, one by Meg Jurkowski and the other by Masotto. The Lady Owls scored at least one run in every inning and erupted for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Coleen Horgan was knocked around for 14 runs on 14 hits while walking seven and striking out one in four innings of work.
Manhattan will take on these same two teams tomorrow afternoon. The Lady Jaspers will face Liberty at 2:00 PM followed by a 6:00 PM contest against Florida Atlantic.
