PHILADELPHIA, PA - (September 8, 2001) The Manhattan College men's soccer team beat Philadelphia University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the St. Joseph's University Hawk Classic. Manhattan junior Jonathan Rowe (Dunedin, New Zealand) started the scoring at the 8:10 mark when he hit a header off Nino Silvestro's (Ossining, NY) long pass from the corner. Philadelphia scored just three minutes later when Everette Pallache scored off a Naby Toure assist. The game remained scoreless for the next 60 minutes of play.
Manhattan sophomore Miguel Montesinos (Dover, NJ) broke the 1-1 tie with a header in the box off a Carlos Builes (Flushing, NY) indirect kick in the 71st minute. Pallache tied the game up again for Philadelphia three minutes later. Builes scored the game-winner off an assist from Rowe at 75:10.
Philadelphia outshot Manhattan 15-8, but Jesse Lardner (Spencer, NY) stopped eight shots to pick up the win.
Manhattan improves to 2-1 while Philadelphia dropped to 2-2. Manhattan plays St. Joseph's at 4 PM Sunday in the final game of the Classic.
