Billy Walsh served as the head coach for the Jaspers for four years. In 2004, Manhattan sustained a 3-14 record. In his first season at the helm, the Jaspers posted a 7-10-1 record, earning a trip to the MAAC Tournament.
Walsh was the 16th overall pick by the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in the 1998 Major League Soccer draft and won the team's Honda MVP Award in 1999. He started 30 games for the MetroStars that year and scored a career-high four goals. Walsh also received the Player Award, was voted by his MetroStars teammates. In his third season in 2000, Walsh played in 24 games, tallying three goals and one assist in the defensive midfield.
During the MLS offseason, Walsh served as the head coach of his alma mater, Chatham High School. In his tenure, Chatham compiled a 42-6 record. In 1999, the Cougars notched a 23-1 record and defeated Freehold Boro, 2-1 for the Group II New Jersey State Title.
Walsh was no stranger to top-level collegiate soccer. As a freshman at the University of Virginia in 1994, he led the NCAA Championship team in game-winning goals and was recognized as Freshman of the Year by U.S. Soccer Magazine. In 1996, he captained the UVA soccer team and was a finalist for the prestigious Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year Award. In 1997, Walsh transferred to Rutgers, where he led the 1997 team to its first-ever Big East Championship. Walsh was also the only collegiate player on the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team in Atlanta.
In high school, Walsh was named to the 1992 and 1993 Parade Magazine All-American team and led the Chatham High School Team to two state championships.
