Women's Volleyball Wraps Up Non-Conference Schedule With Bryant Wednesday

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Volleyball team (1-10), in their final match before the start of Metro play, fell to the Bulldogs from Bryant (5-8) in four sets (21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25) inside Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday evening. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Each side traded points evenly to start the match, as kills from Katie Powers and Emilia Kuzniar tied the match at seven and eight. 
  • Powers again slammed one home to tie the first at 15 apiece, but Bryant responded with five consecutive points. 
  • Hanna Kaczynska put the visitors back within two at 22-20, however three of the final four went back to the Bulldogs to give them set one. 
  • Starting off the second stanza was the reverse script in favor of Manhattan, as Kaczynska scored the fourth out of five opening scores. 
  • Later going down 8-4, a dual block from Abby Morreale and Margaret O'Brien put the Jaspers back within one at 9-8. 
  • A solo block from Helenn Montilla put the Green and White back on top at 13-12 midway through the second. 
  • Despite getting back to within one late, Bryant ripped off three in a row to take a two-set margin over Manhattan. 
  • Setting the tone with a dual block from Montilla and Kuzniar, the road team took a 9-5 edge to get the third set underway. 
  • With a kill from Emma Francesconi keeping the lead at four at 17-13, the hosts stormed back and put themselves up by two at 22-20 late. 
  • Five out of the final six were granted to the Jaspers, as a service ace from Anna Duncan and a final Kaczynska kill sealing the third set. 
  • Manhattan kept the fourth close early, tying at 15-all following four in a row capped off by a solo block from Morreale. 
  • Getting within one late at 21-20, Bryant scored the final four points to take the set and match three sets to one. 
STATS AND NOTES
  • Senior middle blocker Abby Morreale set a new career-high with nine total blocks. 
  • Sophomore right side Hanna Kaczynska led the way in kills for the Green and White, accumulating 11 for her second consecutive match with 10+. 
  • Senior outside hitter Katie Powers landed on top amongst her teammates in digs, registering 11 as well. 
  • Manhattan hit at their best rate in the third set, with a .225 clip.
  • Senior setter Emilia Kuzniar spread the most wealth, serving up 11 assists on the evening. 
NEXT UP
Head Coach Brooke Alverson and the Jaspers will begin conference play within the Metro starting next Friday, September 25. The Green and White will play host to the Warriors from Merrimack inside Draddy Gymnasium, with action scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m..
