LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Golf team competed in its inaugural MAAC Women's Golf Championships on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from Disney's Magnolia Golf Course.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Opening the tournament was All-MAAC Second Teamer Nawel Ben Letaief, with one birdie on the front nine.
  • In the second spot of the starting lineup was Giana Zinke, who birdied early, before struggling the remainder on the front side, and responding on the back nine with two birdies and four pars throughout.
  • Jayden Peters, Maddison Long, and Beans Factor all tallied three additional birdies in the first round.
  • On Day Two of the tournament, Factor made noise with a 15th hole eagle, while Letaief added four birdies and scored three over on the day.
  • Isabella Encinas performed exceptionally with a solid response to a valiant effort on the front nine, with three birdies on the back side to give the Green and White a much-needed boost down the stretch.
  • During the final round of the tournament, Ben Letaief settled in with two miscues throughout the round, netting a birdie twice and par the rest of the way, and logging one over par overall and one under on the back nine.
  • Peters, Factor, and Encinas all sank par throughout the third day in the Inaugural Championships for the Jaspers.
  • After all was said and done, senior Nawel Ben Letaief was one of ten MAAC student-athletes to be named to the Women's Golf All-Championship Team. Others named were: Quinnipiac's Sophia Fujita (-4), Fairfield's Grace Windfelder (-3), UAlbany's Mia Cepeda (+1), UAlbany's Thanita Aungsuseewong (+4), Merrimack's June Doerr (+6), Quinnipiac's Samantha Galantini (+6), Fairfield's Ainhoa Jauregi (+9), Fairfield's Katelynn Waclawski (+9), and Fairfield's Addie Chang (+9).

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS

Head Coach Keith Prokop: "A bitter end to a great season overall. Going down to our first MAAC was a needed learning experience."

"It was nice to hear everyone complementing our program on a successful first year, but I know that this program truly has a tremendous group of young women and will be very successful in years to come."

"Nawel [Ben Letaief] capped off her amazing career with a top ten finish in very dramatic fashion, but she will be leaving the program in great hands."
