Baseball Takes Series v. Siena in Commanding Fashion on Sunday

POMONA, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (13-19, 6-12 MAAC) handily defeated the Saints of Siena University (10-21, 6-12 MAAC) by a score of 16-2 in seven innings from inside Clover Stadium on Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Opening the rubber match with a vengeance were the Green and White, who put together three two-out total bases that included Colin Basehore working a walk.
  • Next batter saw Andreaus Lewis knocked an infield single to third, before Vincent Samuel scored on a wild pitch to supply the icebreaker.
  • In the second inning, the Jaspers continued their red-hot start with Hunter Sute leading the inning off with a base-knock to right center.
  • Following suit was Justin Best, who pushed the train forward with a centerfield shot, before Ryan Lordier cleared the bases with a three RBI triple to center to post a four spot.
  • Then, Basehore added to the team's lead with a double down the left-field line to force Lordier to cross the plate for the Jaspers' seventh run.
  • Manhattan's eighth run came across with Sute's second appearance in the inning with a single up the middle and drove home Lewis.
  • The rout continued for the Green and White with Vincent Samuel adding on with a two-out base knock to right field and driving home Lordier to expand its lead back to seven.
  • The fourth inning featured another two hits, which included a defensive miscue by Siena, allowing Trevor Hansen to score from second.
  • The Jaspers continued with a one-out Lewis double. Followed by a two-out, two-run blast for Hunter Sute down the right field line to extend its lead to double digits.
  • In the sixth inning, the Jaspers remained red hot with Samuel knocking a triple to left-center and driving home Guriyandel Salva, before Hansen smacked another Jasper home run to left field, which scored him and Hayden Jung-Goldberg.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS

Head Coach Steven Rosen: "After a disappointing game Friday, I'm really proud of the guys for coming back and taking the series. Really happy for Trey Packen, who continues to look stronger each time out after his surgery. Really proud of Duff [Joseph Duffield] for sliding roles behind Packen and holding them scoreless."

"Anytime you score in each inning of the game, it's an impressive performance. But to put up 17 hits and 16 runs in 6 innings is a testament to all our hitters' hard work in the cages every day, their preparation, and their commitment to our game plan. Happy to see the results show today."
