RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Basketball team (5-18, 5-9 MAAC) fell to the Saint of Siena University (11-12, 9-5 MAAC) by a score of 91-72 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon in a rescheduled and relocated bout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After pushing the contest back nearly 24 hours due to a maintenance issue in Loudonville, the Jaspers played host to the Saints in Riverdale the day after the scheduled contest on Super Bowl Sunday.
- The Jaspers fell behind by as much as 14 in the waning minutes of the first quarter before Colette Mulderig grabbed a second-chance bucket down low following Tatianna Collins' missed jumper to jump-start Manhattan's comeback attempt.
- With seconds remaining in the first stanza, Alyssa Costigan hit a booming three-pointer to provide a significant boost of momentum heading into the second ten.
- Following a double-digit run from the Saints, it was Elisa Solé Sanchez with the fast break from Brianna Davis to add to the score, plus a foul on the way down.
- On the ensuing possession, it was Davis again, who made waves for the Green and White, and capitalized on the Siena turnover with another Jasper trey to cut the deficit even further.
- Three minutes later, Agar Farres Garcia converted a dazzling hook shot in the low post provided by Hana Mühl's assist, before Davis worked her way up the floor to capture another two for the trailing Green and White.
- Out of the locker room came the Jaspers firing on all cylinders with an eight-to-two run to open things, highlighted by Solé Sanchez's three-point basket three and a half minutes into the second half.
- Providing quality defense was Tatianna Collins, who eventually stole the ball and found Davis underneath for another two.
- In the fourth quarter, it was Solé Sanchez who found Mulderig off a Saints turnover to inch the forward's point total closer to 20.
