NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (9-19, 9-10 MAAC), despite the first 30 point outing by a Jasper this season from Brianna Davis, dropped its conference contest against the Gaels from Iona (19-11, 12-8 MAAC) by a final score of 65-59 inside Hynes Athletic Center on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A trio of Davis, Agar Farrés Garcia, and Hana Mühl tallied the first six points of the evening, with Mühl's jumper giving the visitors a brief lead midway through the frame.
- The Gaels bursted out on a 10-2 run to take a six point edge by the three minute mark of the opening quarter.
- As the two sides exchanged deep shots before the first quarter horn, Iona took a four point edge into the second.
- It was the hosts who stretched out their advantage to double digits, following a layup from Isabellah Middleton.
- Davis converted a pair from the stripe just before the break, with the Gaels now holding an eight point margin headed into the locker room.
- The Bronx, N.Y. native scored eight of the 12 points from the Green and White throughout the whole third quarter, as the Jaspers faced a 12 point deficit going to the final quarter.
- Seven unanswered points came by the way of the road team to kick off the fourth, capped off by yet another Davis jumper.
- Farrés Garcia pulled up from about 10 feet away from the basket with around five minutes to play, knocking down the crucial shot to bring Manhattan within three.
- At 55 all, two free throws from Farrés Garcia tied the game for the first time since 4-4 in the first quarter.
- While the game was within two in the final 30 seconds, the free throw game was won by Iona, giving them their 12th and final win in the regular season.
