Davis Matches Career-High With 28 Points; Women's Hoops Wins Second In A Row Over Canisius

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (7-18, 7-9 MAAC), led by 28 points from Brianna Davis, put together their second consecutive win, this time against the Golden Griffins from Canisius (4-21, 2-14 MAAC) by a final score of 68-55 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Canisius grabbed the opening bucket, Davis finally got one to fall through the hoop over two and a half minutes in, knotting up the contest.
  • All of Manhattan's first seven points came through the hands of Davis, with a three-point shot being included in that total.
  • Hana Mühl, Agar Farrés Garcia, and Tatianna Collins all joined the scoring column, enough to give the Green and White an eight point lead after 10 minutes.
  • Davis increased her tally to 14 with another deep shot early in the second, more than the Golden Griffins' 13 as a team at that point
  • As Canisius brought the deficit to within four midway through the frame, Manhattan scored the final 10 points of the half, capped off by a driving layup from Elisa Solé Sanchez with 20 seconds to spare before the break.
  • Solé Sanchez converted all three chances she had from the stripe, giving her seven midway through the third.
  • Two more shots from behind the line contributed to eight total points in the third for Davis, having 28 by quarter's end.
  • Both Mühl and Davis got themselves into double digits with layups in the final frame.
  • Canisius got the game back within single digits with around two minutes to play, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan held on for their seventh conference win.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Senior guard Brianna Davis led the team with 28 points, with her total of 20 in the first half being the most any Jasper has accumulated through 20 minutes. This number also matches her career-best, which she put up against Rider just nine days ago.
  • Graduate guard Elisa Solé Sanchez followed behind with 17 points, while leading the team with seven assists.
  • Senior guard Hana Mühl was the third and final Jasper to post in double figures, as her 11 came with nine rebounds and three steals.
  • Graduate forward Agar Farrés Garcia pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, her seventh 10+ performance on the glass this season.
  • Manhattan shot at its best rate in the second quarter, with a 50% clip.
QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS:
  • Head Coach Heather Vulin: "The girls are locked in ... we know all these games are important to be playing well in time for the [MAAC] Tournament. Credit to Brianna Davis for being absolutely sensational as we're down a couple players, raising her game to a different level."
  • Senior guard Brianna Davis on matching her career-high: "It means a lot, I know my team counts on me, so when I can go out there and produce, it always makes me feel good."
  • Davis on the recent locker room energy: "Our energy is high ... with two wins this week it's a big energy booster and we know the upcoming games will help us get a good spot for the playoffs."
