EDISON, N.J. - In recognition of an outstanding first week at the UIW Tournament, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced Manhattan's
Lainey Brown has won the first Rookie of the Week weekly award, according to a press release from the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
After tallying three hits on opening day against Prairie View A&M and host Incarnate Word, the newcomer had much more in store for the next day of action against the same opponents.
The California native took advantage of the warmer weather in San Antonio, hitting a home run against both the Panthers and Cardinals, collecting a total of five RBI on the day.
In the tournament finale against Bradley, Brown found one more base knock to finish with a batting average of .583 and an OPS of 1.893 and a slugging percentage of 1.250%.
Brown will continue contributing to the Jaspers this weekend when the program travels down to the Elon Softball Invitational. Starting on Friday, February 13, the Green and White will face off against Dayton at 12:30 PM and Elon at 3:00 PM. The second game will have a video broadcast on FloCollege.
