RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (7-2-3, 4-1-3 Metro), honoring 10 seniors prior to the game, drew against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart (8-5-1, 3-4-1 Metro) by a final score of 0-0 on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lauren Ahearn, Arancha Antunes, Marlene Berlinghoff, Molly Brunk, Gianna Fucile, Talia Omer, Olivia McMaster, Kaylee Stowell, Mary Trudeau, and Payton Wilkerson were each recognized in a ceremony prior to opening kick, honoring their dedication to the program over the last several years.
- Each side felt the other out through much of the opening section of the contest, with the first shot not coming for eight minutes.
- Brunk secured her first save of the day just past the 11 minute mark, her only of the half.
- Ahearn responded with a shot on Manhattan's end over 20 minutes later, saved by Sacred Heart's Kyran Thievon.
- Baileigh Johnson sent in one more chance towards the net with less than 90 seconds to play, but the teams headed to the locker rooms scoreless.
- Coming out for the second half, the Jaspers' McMaster along with the Pioneers' Alexa Wolff each sent in shots within the first ten minutes, with the latter hitting the top crossbar.
- 20 seconds after an on-target opportunity from Isabela Montesdeoca, Ahearn was receiving a cross towards the box when her and a Pioneer both went down to draw a whistle.
- After the referees went to VAR, it was determined Ahearn was offside.
- Brunk collected two more saves in a three-minute span just after the game turned to the 70th minute.
- In the 82nd, Sacred Heart believed they had scored, only for VAR to once again confirm an offside call.
- With under two minutes to play, Brunk made one final save to thwart any more chances for the visitors, as the game ended in a deadlock.
