BUFFALO, N.Y. -
Off to a 1-3 start in MAAC play, the Manhattan Jaspers look to venture closer to .500 in conference play with their annual weekend trip to Western New York to take on Canisius. Leading Manhattan in the points category has been Senior guard Brianna Davis, recently crossing the 1,000 career point threshold while leading the Jaspers by averaging 12.0 points a night. A recent uptick in play has come from Graduate forward Colette Mulderig, who has now scored in double figures in five of her last six games. On the defensive end, the Scranton, Pa. native is averaging 1.7 blocks a contest, good enough for 2nd in the MAAC. Graduate forward Agar Farrés Garcia has pitched in with rebounding, as her 7.7 nightly average puts her in a tie for third across the MAAC. The Jaspers will look to take care of business before ending their road trip against Niagara this Sunday (Jan. 11).

Scouting the Opposition:

After seven consecutive losses to open 2025-26, the Canisius Golden Griffins have also opened the early portion of the MAAC schedule without a win.

Despite their early struggles, Canisius managed to pick up two wins in the non-conference slate, with back-to-back wins against Mercyhurst and Wright State by the final scores of 75-67 and 65-60.

Canisius is led by Junior forward Shariah Gailes, who has posted 14.3 points a night on the backs of three 20+ point performances against Syracuse (11/11), Mercyhurst (28), and Wright State (20). The 6'0 Ohio native also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.2 per contest.

Senior guard Franka Wittenberg (9.1), Sophomore forward Irene Rey Pineda (7.4), Sophomore guard Corniya Clay (6.2), and Sophomore forward Yasmine Djibril (6.2), have all helped pick up the slack in Gailes' absence since 12/21.

Canisius was selected to finish in ninth place in the 2025-26 edition of the MAAC Preseason Poll.

After hovering just below .500 in the conference slate at 9-11 in 2024-25, the Golden Griffins entered the 2025 MAAC Championship as the ninth-seeded team.

In Atlantic City, Canisius' first round matchup came against eighth-seeded Manhattan, who immediately ended their season by a final score of 52-42.

This will serve as the 75th matchup between Canisius and Manhattan, with the Jaspers taking the win in four of the last five outings.
