RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (5-16, 5-7 MAAC), fell in its conference contest to the Gaels from Iona (14-9, 7-5 MAAC) by a final score of 65-51 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As the Gaels scored the first six points of the contest, Brianna Davis' and-one at 7:04 of the opening frame was converted, cutting that initial margin in half.
- Getting to within three late in the quarter, Colette Mulderig's layup got the Jaspers the closest all period, ending the first down nine.
- Mulderig knocked down the first jump shot of the second, upping her point total to seven.
- Free throws were the name of the game in the second frame, as the Green and White knocked down all four they were given.
- Agar Farrés Garcia kept Manhattan within single digits just prior to half, knocking down her layup opportunity, going into the break down eight.
- Elisa Solé Sanchez connected on her first shot of the game from beyond the arc, thwarting an early Gael push to start the second half.
- Mulderig put herself in double figures with a turnaround shot with under two minutes to play, as did Davis with a step back at 1:11 on the clock.
- Tatianna Collins got in the scoring column off a feed from Davis for the final basket of the third frame.
- Davis took the active lead in scoring with 13 when her jump shot connected for the first basket of the final ten minutes.
- With roughly five minutes to play, Farrés Garcia hit her first three point jump shot in Division I, giving her seven on the day.
- Despite the Jaspers winning the final quarter, it wasn't enough to overcome the Gaels, dropping to 5-7 in conference play.
