RIVERDALE, NY – Manhattan Men's and Women's Golf Head Coach Keith Prokop has announced freshman Edie Nicholson as the first-ever signee for the newest program in Riverdale, on Thursday morning.

"Starting a new program as a coach, you get a lot of butterflies of nerves and excitement," says Prokop.

"You know what you have as a program even in year one, you know the traditions and standards of the university, but are always anxious about who will buy in and believe in building this story with us."

Nicholson, the Calgary, Alberta native, joins the Manhattan Women's Golf program as the first-ever signee after playing a multitude of sports at Western Canada High School, which included three years of Girls' Varsity Golf, with one year of Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, and running on the Track and Field team.

"When we first met Edie, we knew she would be someone who fit perfectly into what we are trying to establish in this brand-new program and be the first person to introduce in this story. I knew her personality and abilities would shine here, and I was so happy she felt the same way."

In Sophomore and Senior years, Nicholson led Western Canada High to championships in two out of three years. In junior year, her squad placed second. She then placed in the top 10 in the province individually all three years, while having the lowest rounds on her team in the final two years of high school.

Nicholson then led her team to a Provincial Championship on the 3A/4A Girls Team High School circuit. Individually, she was nominated as Athlete of the Month in the province of Alberta while being awarded Team MVP by her peers. Additionally, she won first place overall on the Alberta Golf Junior Tour twice in 2022 and 2024.

She also won the ASAA Provincial High School Team Championship in 2022 and 2024. At the same time, she was awarded the ASAA Female Athlete of the Month in September of 2024.

Outside of Golf, Nicholson played one year of Girls' Varsity Volleyball at Western Canada High, where she helped lead her team to become Conference, Sectional, and Regional Champions, while becoming Team Captain as a freshman.

She also played volleyball at the youth level, where she played for the 18U Aviators Volleyball Club. During the six years of club experience, she was part of the Premier League – Alberta Volleyball Canada Divisions I and II U18 team.

The Alberta native will pursue her bachelor's degree in business at Manhattan beginning this fall.
