Isaac Posts First Double-Double; Men’s Basketball Rolls v. Presbyterian

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (5-8, 1-1 MAAC) rolled against the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College (6-8, 0-0 Big South) by a score of 87-81 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Looking to conclude the non-conference schedule in style, the Green and White, who have logged two of their three victories inside the friendly confines of Draddy, took down Presbyterian in last season's inaugural meeting in South Carolina.
  • After the Blue Hose opened the contest with a bucket within the first two minutes, it was Fraser Roxburgh to knot the score at two.
  • Manhattan fell into a two-possession hole five minutes in, before Erik Oliver-Bush brought his team back with a booming triple to reignite the offense.
  • Adding to the Manhattan lead was freshman guard Quron Elliott, who followed up Jaden Winston's second chance basket with a three of his own.
  • The Jaspers would go on a 9-2 run in the next four and a half minutes to jump ahead by as much as eight.
  • Presbyterian made things interesting after the under-eight media timeout to bring its deficit within three points, but Marko Ljubicic capitalized on a Blue Hose traveling call to widen the margin to six. Before Dinkins added another Jasper three to give Manhattan its largest lead at nine.
  • Additional back and forth by both the Jaspers and Blue Hose continued down the stretch, before the Green and White began separating itself with Erik Oliver-Bush slamming a poster dunk home to, again, widen the lead to double-digits.
  • Out of the locker room was Ljubicic, who added another two points to the already existing Jasper lead.
  • The Blue Hose leapt over the Jaspers behind an 11-0 run, before Isaac, once again, took advantage of the Presbyterian miscue to tie the game at 64.
  • Jump-starting the Jaspers to an eventual 16-3 run was Jaden Winston, who sank another deafening triple before never looking back.
  • The opposition made things interesting once more with a second-chance tip-in with 90 seconds remaining to make it a five-point deficit for Presbyterian, before Isaac landed his final basket of the game to capture the first double-double of his Jasper tenure.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Redshirt Junior guard Devin Dinkins paced the Green and White with 19 points on the afternoon on seven-of-11 shooting, which included four triples, one rebound, and three assists in 30 minutes on the floor.
  • Junior guard Jaden Winston posted 17 points on the afternoon on five-of-nine shooting from the floor. Winston also converted five of six from the charity stripe while adding a season high eight assists in 36 minutes of game time.
  • Junior forward Anthony Isaac led the team with a team and season high 16 rebounds, with 12 points added to the scoresheet in 22 minutes off the bench. For Isaac, this served as the first NCAA double-double of his career. Throughout the MAAC, Isaac's 16 rebounds are third most in the league this season behind Canisius's Mike Evbagharu and his 17 rebounds at Siena on Thursday, and Fairfield's Declan Wucherpfenning's 19 against the aforementioned Jaspers on December 6th, inside Draddy Gymnasium.
  • Sophomore guard Erik Oliver-Bush registered nine points on a perfect three-for-three from the floor, with two assists and two steals. The Saint Anselm transfer logged his 11th and 12th blocks of the season in 29 minutes of game time.
  • Graduate guard Terrance Jones recorded 13 points on the afternoon, while grabbing four caroms, and was perfect from the free-throw line in four total attempts, while assisting on two buckets in 27 minutes off the bench.
