RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Volleyball team (4-22, 2-14 MAAC) emerged victorious in its conference contest against the Red Foxes from Marist University (9-19, 7-9 MAAC), prevailing in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) inside Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manhattan faced an early disadvantage in the first set, but clawed their way to a 10-8 lead after a dual block from Hanna Kaczynska and Abby Morreale.
- Going blow for blow with the Red Foxes midway through, a 5-2 run put Marist back on top at 15-14.
- Seven unanswered points were capped off by another Kaczynska kill, putting the Jaspers in the driver's seat.
- Emma Francesconi's eighth kill of the afternoon ended the first set in favor of the Green and White, at 25-21.
- While Marist was able to knot the score on various occassions in the second set, Manhattan never relinquished their lead throughout its entirety.
- Back-to-back attack errors midway through forced a Red Foxes timeout at 15-11.
- The home squad came out of the slight break with four more unanswered, finished off by a Kaczynska service ace.
- Kaczynska continued to prove herself as the biggest impact player on the floor, as back-to-back solo blocks from her ended the second dance 25-17 in favor of the Green and White.
- Katie Powers introduced herself in the third with a service ace, giving the Jaspers four of the first five points.
- Marist called both of its timeouts before Manhattan netted their 12th point, in the midst of six unanswered.
- Francesconi produced her 12th kill of the afternoon after another stretch of five unanswered, putting Manhattan up 21-10.
- The high-powered duo of Kaczynska and Francesconi ended the match in that order, off a pair of kills.
STATS AND NOTES
- Freshman outside hitter Emma Francsconi and Junior outside hitter Katie Powers led the way with 22 combined kills.
- Manhattan dominated Marist in the inside game, taking the block battle 15-3.
- The Jaspers hit at their best rate in the second set, with a .579 clip.
- Junior middle blocker Abby Morreale along with Freshman right side Hanna Kaczynska contributed the most to the Green and White's blocks, tallying a combined 14.
- Junior and Sophomore setters Emilia Kuzniar and Hunter Kwan spread the ball around the most, accounting for 30 of Manhattan's 40 assists.

The Green and White will return to Draddy Gymnasium on Friday, November 14, when the Jaspers welcome the Stags from Fairfield University to continue a four-game homestand to end MAAC play. The match can be viewed live on the Jasper Sports Network and is slated for a 7 p.m. opening serve.
