MEN’S HOOPS SET TO PLAY THIS WEEK

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team (4-12, 1-6 MAAC) will play Canisius College this Friday at Koessler Athletic Center. Manhattan will then travel to Niagara University for a tip-off at Gallagher Center on Sunday. 

Game Info: Tip-off against Canisius (7-11, 2-6 MAAC) is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Jan. 26.  Tip-off against Niagara (9-9, 5-3 MAAC) is set for 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 The games will be televised on ESPN+ and MAAC.TV (for international viewers).

The Opponent: Canisius is on a three-game losing streak, as it dropped its last game against Saint Peter's, 70-59. Tre Dinkins had 12 points and five rebounds for the Golden Griffs. Canisius is ranked 10th in the MAAC standings. Niagara is on a two-game winning streak, beating its last opponent, Mount St. Mary's, 82-71. Ahmad Henderson II led the Purple Eagles with 23 points and three rebounds. 

Series Info: Last time out, Manhattan faced Canisius on Jan. 29, 2023, with the Jaspers winning 81-74. Manhattan played Niagara on Jan. 5, 2024, with the Jaspers falling short 81-67.

The Preview: The Jaspers were led in scoring by Shaquil Bender, who scored 21 for Manhattan. Daniel Rouzan added 13 points and eight rebounds against Fairfield. Bender leads the overall scoring effort for Manhattan at 13.6 points per game.

By the Numbers: Rookie Seydou Traore ranks ninth in the NCAA in defensive rebounds (7.5) and 38th in rebounds per game (9.3) - the top freshman in the nation in the category.

What's Ahead: The Jaspers will host Quinnipiac University on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium for Black Studen Union.
