Jaspers Secure First MAAC Victory

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan was able to come up with their first win of MAAC play, taking down Mount St. Mary's 1-0 at Gaelic Park. The win pushed the Jaspers record to 2-3-3, including 1-0-2 in MAAC play.

The game was a defensive battle from start to finish, with scoring chances coming minimally, in a game that featured rainy conditions throughout. The first half featured four yellow cards, three of them being assessed to Mount St. Mary's. The game was tied at nil throughout until a strike from Arancha Antunes found the head of a Mount player and was redirected out of the goalies reach, finding its way to the back of the net to give the Jaspers a 1-0 lead. The Jaspers played strong defense throughout and prevented the opposition from ever getting comfortable offensively, resulting in the 1-0 victory.

The Jaspers were led in the net by goalkeeper Margaret Brunk. She recorded a perfect sheet going 4/4 in save opportunities. Nine different players recorded a shot attempt today for Manhattan.

As a team, the Jaspers recorded four corner kicks and had six shots on goal.

Manhattan returns to the pitch Saturday, September 30, when they return to Gaelic Park for another conference home game against Marist.
