Five Things to Know for the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan is set to host the semifinals and championship game of the MAAC Championship on Thursday and Saturday at Gaelic Park.

The semifinals on Thursday start at 3 p.m. when No. 2 Mount St. Mary's meets No. 3 Marist. The second semifinal is at 7 p.m. featuring No. 1 Manhattan and No. 4 Siena. Both games can be watched on ESPN+.

All fans must purchase tickets to attend the action this week at Gaelic Park.

Here are five things to know about the Jaspers and the MAAC Tournament.

1. The Jaspers are looking to defend their MAAC Title this week. Manhattan beat St. Bonaventure and Marist in the semifinals and final last season to win the program's first MAAC Title since 2002.

2. Manhattan won 10 games during the regular season. It is only the third time in program history that the Jaspers have reached double-digit wins. Eleven wins are the most in a season in program history, which the 2002 MAAC Champions set.

3. If the Jaspers take home the title this weekend, they will be the first back-to-back MAAC Champion since Providence did it in 2007 and 2008. Siena is the only team to win two in three seasons during that span.

4. John Odierna won the MAAC Coach of the Year honor this season after leading the Jaspers to a share of the regular season championship. Manhattan has won the MAAC Coach of the Year award for the second time in three seasons. Drew Kelleher won the honor in 2021.

5. Besides Oderina winning coach of the year, five Jaspers earned All-MAAC honors. The five All-MAAC honorees are Kyle Gucwa at attack, Christian Clifford on defense, and Joseph Persico in goal—all earned made first team. Tadhg O'Riordan, short-stick defensive midfielder, earned second-team honors, and Liam Peabody was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team.

Manhattan awaits its opponent in the semifinals of the MAAC Championship. The semifinals will be on Thursday, May 4, at Gaelic Park.
