SAN DIEGO – Former Manhattan baseball standout
Tom Cosgrove was added to the San Diego Padres 40-man roster earlier this week.
Cosgrove pitched three seasons in the Green and White and was a 12
th-round selection by the Padres in 2017 after he earned Second Team All-MAAC honors. Cosgrove graduated sixth in career strikeouts with 225. In 2017, Cosgrove was a two-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week and paced the MAAC, and ranked 48th nationally, with 105 strikeouts (11.21/game - 32nd NCAA) while also matching
Chris Cody's single-season record.
The 26-year-old struck out 82 batters against 28 walks in 55 2/3 innings this past year as he pitched in Double-A San Antonio (2.45 ERA) and Triple-A El Paso (4.80 ERA).
Manhattan's baseball program dates back to 1863, when Brother Jasper started the program. The Jaspers have recorded over 1,300 wins in program history and have won three MAAC Tournament titles over 15 appearances. Manhattan has made the NCAA Tournament three times since 2000 and once more in 1957. Since 2000, the Jaspers have won 20-plus games 18 times.
