Riverdale, NY - Manhattan volleyball toppled Marist Sunday, November 11, defeating the Red Foxes in five sets during the team's annual Senior Day match.Â
Manhattan improves to 5-26 on the season and 3-15 in the MAAC to earn a nine seed in the 2018 MAAC Championships, which begin next week in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Marist falls to 14-14 overall and 11-7 in the league. The Red Foxes finish with a fifth-place seed for the tournament.Â
Highlights:
- Senior hitter Sandra Lozanova (Pernik, Bulgaria / Fresno State) served out the fifth set with three-straight aces to give the Jaspers a 3-2 win over the Red Foxes (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11). She had nine aces for the match, a season-high, bringing her season total to 76, good for 0.57 aces per set played, which ranks first in the MAAC. She added 16 digs and five kills.Â
- The Jaspers had three players tally double-digit kills for the match. Senior Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) led the team with 11, a season-high, while senior Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) and sophomore Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) each contributed 10.Â
- Monroe and classmate Kenza Hall (Oakland, CA / Middle Tennessee State) each posted four blocks to lead Manhattan, marking another season-high for Monroe. Hoener had three blocks of her own against the Red Foxes, finishing the MAAC regular season ranked ninth in the league with 0.79 blocks per set.
- Sunday marked a career day for freshman Abby Wilde (Parkesberg, PA / Octorora), who earned 31 assists for her best performance of the season.Â
- Prior to the match, Manhattan honored its six graduating seniors and their families. The senior class includes: Chaltas, Hall, Lozanova, Monroe, libero Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) and defensive specialist Samantha Wagner (Sandy, UT / Hofstra).
