Devuyst's OT Strike Pushes Jaspers Over Broncs

Riverdale, NY - With just 21 seconds elapsed in overtime after a physical standstill, junior midfielder Milan Devuyst (Ostend, Belgium / ODU) ended the game with the first goal of his Manhattan career as Manhattan beat Rider 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Gaelic Park.

Manhattan ties the program record with its 10th win of the season, moving to 10-3 and 3-2 in the MAAC. The Broncs fall to 3-1 in conference play and 4-6-1 overall.

As the Jaspers received the ball to begin overtime, they worked it down the left sideline. Junior defender Angee Komano (Toulouse, France / Université Montpellier) crossed to the right post to find fifth-year forward Troy Carrington (Verona, NJ / Syracuse). Carrington flicked it to his left for Devuyst, whose initial shot was stopped by Rider's Pablo Gatinois from less than five yards out. However, Gatinois could not scoop up the ball, and Devuyst gained the rebound and flicked it top-shelf to seal the game.

Junior goalkeeper Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS) made three saves as he participated in his 13th shutout as a Jasper and a program-best 12th-career individual shutout.

Manhattan aims to build another winning streak on Saturday, October 13 when it travels up to Poughkeepsie, NY for a date with Marist. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.

FIRST HALF
  • Komano took the Jaspers' first shot of the affair in the 10th minute, heading the ball high off a bounce from a corner kick.
  • Rider's first shot on goal came in the 21st minute as Elliott Otmani ripped a shot just inside the box that Gohier snagged off a couple hops.
  • Gohier came in for his second save with just over nine minutes left in the first half as Clement Bourret escaped in the middle to place a 20-yard shot into the bread basket.
  • Four minutes later, senior forward Lucas Da Silva (West Palm Beach, FL / Palm Beach Atlantic) used nifty footwork off a Rider turnover to get open for a 20-yard shot that sailed high.

SECOND HALF
  • Komano fed an excellent cross from the left side to Da Silva, and the senior unleashed a shot that forced Gatinois to dive to make the save in the 51st minute.
  • In less than 60 seconds at the 56-minute mark, Manhattan had two prime chances off three corner kicks, but the best one, a ball from freshman midfielder Thomas Hitchins (Raleigh, NC / Wakefield), was saved.
  • In the 63rd minute, freshman midfielder James Cotter (Wigan, England / Hawkley Hall) bent a ball past a defender that Gatinois had to dive to his left to keep out of the net.
  • Rider's Arthur Herpreck was issued a red card following two yellow cards in the match, forcing the Broncs to play with 10 men the rest of the match.
  • Manhattan's final shot of regulation came from sophomore forward Brandon Joseph-Buadi (Brighton, England / Woodard) in the 88th minute, but Gatinois snagged his shot by the left post.
