Niagara University, NY - Junior Lizzy Carlson (Auburn, MA / Auburn) notched her fourth game-winning goal of the season to lead Manhattan past Niagara 1-0 in a battle of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) unbeatens at Niagara Field.
With the victory, the Jaspers (8-3-1; 4-0-1 MAAC) are now the last remaining team in the league without a loss while the Purple Eagles fall to 6-4-2 and 4-1-0 in the MAAC.
Manhattan garnered what would prove to the lone goal in the 50th minute when freshman Nicole Copping (Blue Point, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) won the ball in the box before finding Carlson, who finished in the far post.
Niagara would fight furiously to try and tie the match, but was unable to crack a tight Jasper defense, which allowed just two shots on goal the rest of the way with senior Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) stopping both.
In the opening period, the Purple Eagles were the aggressors and nearly opened the scoring as Sophie Connor's shot in the 32nd minute hit the post.
For the match, Skonieczny made five saves in moving to 7-2-1 with her school-record matching sixth shutout of the season. She also now has 21 career wins and 14 career shutouts and needs just one win and two shutouts to match the Jaspers' career records in both categories.
Manhattan concludes its two-match road swing at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, October 14 at 3:00 pm.

* The Jaspers' 8-3-1 start is the best in program history as is the squad's 4-0-1 MAAC beginning.
* Carlson notched both game-winning goals this week.
* Copping registered four assists this week and now has a team-best six on the season.
* Manhattan has outscored the opposition 22-6 with all eight wins coming via shutout.
