RIVERDALE, N.Y. - As the Manhattan College men's basketball team gears up for its foreign tour to the Bahamas later this month, GoJaspers.com will post a series of features from the staff and student-athletes during the remainder of July. The features will highlight how the team is spending its summer and building toward the start of the 2013-14 campaign.
Rising junior Emmy Andujar recently returned to the United States following more than a month in Puerto Rico and China, where he competed for the Puerto Rican national team in the 2013 Stankovic Cup.
Puerto Rico finished fourth in the six-team competition, which included first-class athletes, ranging from NCAA Division I student-athletes to former NBA players. Andujar shares this thoughts below on his experience and what it meant for him to compete on the international stage.
Hey what's up Jasper Nation, Emmy Andujar here. I just made it back to New York from China.
China was a great experience and I am very blessed to get that chance as a young college player. It was a honor just to be a part of the team. We played against very good competition, including former NBA players, and players that have won Olympic gold in their past professional careers.
We didn't finish out on top like how we planned but we gave it our best fight against every team. It was good to be around Puerto Rican professional basketball players who have been playing FIBA basketball for 7 to 10 years already and were able to guide me through things. Now that's over and I'm back in New York ready to reunite with my Jaspers, who I've missed after a month and a half. Now it's time to prepare for our Bahamas trip coming up in August.
