RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan's RaShawn Stores garnered his third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award of the season Monday. The first-year guard scored 13 points on Thursday to help lead the Jaspers to a 67-54 victory over Canisius.
Stores erupted for his 13 points and two assists in 23 minutes off the bench. He shot a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point territory and went 4-for-5 (80%) from the free-throw line. Stores anchored a solid effort by the Manhattan reserves that outscored the Golden Griffs, 25-12. The 5'11" native of the Bronx led a pivotal scoring surge just before intermission by posting nine straight points to give Manhattan a double-digit cushion at intermission.
It was the second straight game and fifth time this season that Stores has delivered a double-figure scoring performance for the Jaspers. Stores leads Manhattan with 55 assists this season, and he is in the top-15 of the MAAC averaging 2.7 in conference games.
Stores has received the last two MAAC Rookie of the Week awards. It is the fourth time a Manhattan player has received the honor this season as freshman forward Shane Richards collected the accolade on Jan. 14.
