FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Early in the second half, Fairfield's Sarah Frassetto and Pam Coufos scored unassisted goals to provide all the scoring in the Stags' 2-0 victory over Manhattan on a crisp Wednesday evening in Connecticut.
In the first half, Fairfield had the best opportunity, in the third minute when Carly Beyer's shot dinged off the post. Manhattan had a chance minutes later when Emily Ude ripped a shot that was blocked and Alex Iovine's shot was blocked as well by a defender.
Manhattan goalkeeper Maria Sanzari stopped two Fairfield shots during the first half as the two teams went into intermission scoreless.
Frassetto started the scoring 1:18 into the second half after a corner kick. Coufos followed that tally with one of her own six minutes later to make it a 2-0 game.
The Stags' defense was able to hold strong from there, as Martine Diamond had the only shot for the Jaspers during the second half.
Sanzari made three saves in the match as Fairfield outshot Manhattan 12-5.
The Jaspers will return to action on Wednesday, October 16 against Saint Peter's at Gaelic Park. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
