RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Former Manhattan College men's basketball standout Durelle Brown was recently named the head varsity boys basketball coach at his alma mater Kingswood Oxford High School in West Hartford, Conn. Brown was a two-time All-MAAC First Team selection and he is fourth on the Jaspers all-time scoring list with 1,634 career points. He will replace head coach Garth Adams who Brown served as an assistant under for the past two seasons after playing the last decade professionally overseas.
"It is literally a dream come true," Brown said. "Twenty years ago this year, I was applying, interviewing and touring Kingswood Oxford School, and here I am now as the coach."
Brown earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Manhattan College. He played 112 games for the Jaspers from 1997 to 2001 and was a two-time team captain. Brown engraved his name in the top-10 of the Jaspers record book for several career statistical categories, including field goal percentage (.535) and field goals made (633). Brown played professionally in Argentina, Brazil, Holland, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela following his collegiate career in Riverdale.
