George Beamon Named MAAC Player of the Week

Beamon Named to NABC All-District I Second Team

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College junior guard George Beamon was named to the 2012 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District I Second Team on Wednesday. Beamon had a break out campaign in 2011-12 as he led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in scoring by averaging 18.6 points per game and he earned All-MAAC First Team honors.

Beamon scored in double-figures in all 31 appearances this season, and he led Manhattan in scoring 24 times and posted 20+ point performances on ten occasions. He led the Jaspers in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and steals (44) during the regular-season. Beamon also ranks 29th nationally in scoring, as well as in the top-10 of the MAAC for 3-point field goal percentage (4th, 42.8%), steals (6th, 1.5 spg) and free-throw percentage (6th, 79.7%).He posted two double-doubles, led the Jaspers in rebounding 10 times and led the team in assists in six contests this season. Beamon averaged a league-best 19.6 points in MAAC games.

The 6'4" native of Roslyn, N.Y. became the 33rd Jasper in program history to reach the 1,000-point career scoring plateau as he notched the milestone point on Feb. 4 versus Iona. Beamon also garnered MAAC Player of the Week honors twice this season and was named the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major National Player of the Week on Jan. 16.

Beamon and the Jaspers will play their first postseason game since 2006 tonight with their participation in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. Manhattan (20-12) visits Albany (19-14) at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the live internet broadcast free at CollegeInsider.com/stream.
