RIVERDALE, N.Y.- Manhattan women's lacrosse sophomore Julia DiBernardo has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week as announced Monday by the league office.
DiBernardo, a goalkeeper, recorded back-to-back victories against Wagner and Sacred Heart to help the Lady Jaspers improve to 2-1 on the season. The Loudonville, N.Y. native compiled an impressive 26 saves while facing 59 total shots. She also picked up six ground balls and caused three turnovers in the two contests.
"Julia stepped up big for us this past week," Coach Victoria Latino said. "She has been doing a lot of individual work outside of practice to improve her skills and it shows. She has more confidence in the net this year and that is something the whole team feeds off of."
Manhattan returns to action Thursday when they welcome Central Connecticut State to Riverdale for a non-conference matchup. First draw is set for 5 p.m.
