Manhattan College Names C.J. Council Coordinator of Men's Basketball Operations

RIVERDALE, N.Y. ?  Head coach Barry Rohrssen announced the hiring of New York City native C.J. Council as the Manhattan men's basketball program's coordinator of operations. Council spent last season as a graduate assistant under Norm Roberts at St. John's University.

“We welcome C.J. to our basketball staff,” Rohrssen said. “He is someone with high character, and comes from an outstanding and supportive family.”

Council, a graduate of St. John's, earned his bachelors degree in sports management in 2004. He joined the Red Storm coaching staff last season, while completing his master's degree in education administration.

Prior to St. John's, Council served as an assistant junior varsity coach for six seasons (2000-01 to 2005-06) at his alma mater Christ the King High School in Middle Village, Queens. Additionally, he coached at New York City Tech during the 2005-06 season. Council also beholds coaching experience with AAU Team Odom during the summers from 2003-06.

“Being educated from a Christian background in high school, and throughout college in both undergraduate and graduate work, his belief in helping and mentoring students mirror that of our mission here at Manhattan,” stated Rohrssen. “Having experience in, and being a product of the Catholic High School Athletic Association, as well as a member of a Big East coaching staff, C.J. brings valuable experience to our program.”

Council's duties at Manhattan include supporting the day-to-day operations of the men's basketball office.

“Throughout his career, C.J. has demonstrated an ability to interact with student-athletes, and has displayed strong communication skills,” said Rohrssen. “We welcome C.J. to our staff, and to becoming a member of the Manhattan College family.”
