RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Neal Siena and Kyle Lauchmen combined for two second half goals, propelling the Manhattan men's soccer team (2-8-1, 0-0-1) to a 2-2 double overtime tie at Marist (3-5-2, 0-0-1 MAAC) this evening. Freshman forward Lucas Szabo posted both of the Red Foxes' goals.
Szabo got Marist out to an early lead, scoring the first goal of the match in the 19th minute. Luis Andre, a midfielder from Matawan, N.J., assisted on the play marking his first of the season. The Red Foxes carried the advantage into halftime.
Less than a minute into the second stanza, Marist extended its lead to 2-0 with Szabo's team-high fifth goal of the year. Szabo took a pass from Nico Mossa, and connected on a shot from 10 years out.
Despite the early setback, the Jaspers battled back into the contest beginning with Lauchmen's acrobatic goal in the 73rd minute. Lauchmen settled a feed from Sean Russell and buried it into the top left corner.
With 83:25 on the clock, Siena delivered the equalizer, blasting a rebound past Marist goalkeeper Scott Kessler. The goal marked Siena's first of the season and forced overtime.
The squads battled throughout 20 minutes of OT, but neither team could escape with the sudden victory.
Manhattan slightly edged Marist 13-12 in shots.
Jaspers' goalie John Ciano made four saves on the night. Kessler posted a game-high seven saves for the Red Foxes.
Manhattan continues its MAAC quest in upstate New York when it faces off with Siena on Sunday in Loudonville. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
