CJ Anderson was named MAAC Rookie of the Year, it was announced today at the MAAC Awards Banquet at the HSBC Arena. All voting was conducted by the conference's head coaches.
Anderson, who has already been named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team and to the All-MAAC Third Team, leads the Jaspers in rebounding, averaging 8.6 rebounds a game. He also is second on the team with 16.7 points per game, and is among the MAAC leaders in numerous categories, averaging 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He leads the team with eight double-doubles, and has posted season highs of 25 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks, and four steals. Anderson has also tallied a Manhattan record number of MAAC Rookie of the Week awards, having received the award eight times, a number that is second all-time in MAAC history.
This is the second time in Bobby Gonzalez's tenure that a Jasper has been awarded the MAAC Rookie of the Year award, as Bruce Seals received the award following the 1999-2000 season. This is the eighth time in the 23-year history of the MAAC that a Manhattan freshman has been recognized as the conference's top rookie.
Manhattan posted a 14-13 record, 9-9 in MAAC play during the regular season, and is the #6 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament. The Jaspers play in Friday, March 4 at 9:30 in an opening round game vs. #9 Loyola.
