CJ Anderson was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 20, it was announced today by the conference office. This is the eighth time this season that Anderson has received this honor, moving him into second place all-time for MAAC Rookie of the Week awards.
The eight Rookie of the Week honors moves Anderson past Saint Peter's Ricky Bellinger into second all time in the MAAC. LaSalle's Lionell Simmons hold the MAAC record with nine Rookie of the Week awards, accomplished in the 1986-87 season.
Anderson posted another impressive week for the Jaspers, averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks. Against Loyola, Anderson scored a game-high 22 points as the Jaspers reached the .500 mark in MAAC play, putting them back in the thick of the MAAC standings. Anderson added five assists, two blocks, and two steals in the 77-61 win. Against George Mason, Anderson again tallied a game-high in points, scoring 25 points, adding nine rebounds, and three steals. On the season, Anderson is averaging 16.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game, and is among the MAAC leaders in all five categories.
Manhattan concludes its regular season with two game this week, hosting Canisius on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. Seniors
Peter Mulligan and
Justin Gatling will be honored before the game, the last regular season home game for the two Manhattan seniors. The Jaspers then wrap up the regular season by traveling to Jersey City, NJ to battle Saint Peter's on Sunday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised on MAAC-TV.
