Walter Olsewski

Walter Olsewski is in his 20th year as a member of the Manhattan Swimming & Diving program, his first as an assistant coach in charge of the program's divers.

Olsewski recently retired as the head coach of both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams.

In his final year in 2015-2016, He eclipsed the 400-win mark for his career, spanning his intercollegiate and interscholastic cocaching careers. For Olsewski's career, his Manhattan teams went 212-175 (155-124 - Women, 57-51 - Men)

The Jaspers also were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-America Teams for the 38th semester in the spring semester. The men also achieved CSCAA Academic All-America status for the 12th time since the program was reinstated in 2009. 

A 1968 Manhattan graduate with a degree in physical education, Olsewski, a Brooklyn native, was a four-year letterwinner on the Manhattan College swim team under head coach Jack Carey. He had the top 50 freestyle time on the team during that season, and received the Jasper Award, awarded annually to the senior swimmer with the highest grade point average. He was selected to the Dean’s List all four years at Manhattan.

Olsewksi began his teaching career in 1968 in the Central Islip Public School District at F.J. O'Neill Elementary School. He retired from teaching in that district in July 2000. He also served his country as an accounting and finance specialist in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1974.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree, Olsewski earned a master's degrees in Health Education from Adelphi University and an Administration of Elementary Schools degree from Washburn University.

Olsewski resides in Medford, NY with his wife, Susan. Their son Sean graduated from Manhattan in 1997 with a degree in sociology and criminal justice.
