Doug Sage begins his third season as Head Coach of the Manhattan Jaspers’ Men’s Lacrosse program in 2026.

Sage was named the seventh head coach of Manhattan University Men’s lacrosse ahead of the 2024 season after previously serving two years as an assistant on the Jaspers’ staff. Since taking leadership, Sage has helped elevate Manhattan to one of its strongest stretches in program history, marked by postseason consistency, record-setting performances, and the development of award-winning student-athletes.

In 2025, the Jaspers reached the MAAC Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals while adding significant program milestones. Hapward was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, earned USILA All-American Honorable Mention, the first ever USILA All-American in Manhattan lacrosse history, and became the University’s second Scholar All-American. Manhattan also earned the USILA National Team Academic Award, underscoring Sage’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic student-athlete development. The program placed 27 student-athletes on the 2025 MAAC All-Academic Team, and the team posted a 3.51 GPA, the highest of any men’s program at Manhattan University.

In 2024, his first season as head coach, Sage guided Manhattan to a breakthrough campaign that included the program’s first-ever Top-20 victory, a 15–12 win over Quinnipiac, along with a run to the MAAC Championship Game with tournament wins over Quinnipiac (14–13) and LIU (8–7). Seven Jaspers earned All-MAAC honors, highlighted by MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year Kyle Gucwa. Following the 2024 season, Gucwa became Manhattan’s first-ever USILA Scholar All-American. Goaltender Connor Hapward earned the College’s prestigious Joseph J. Gunn Alumni Medal, the highest undergraduate honor awarded by Manhattan College. The 2024 team also excelled academically, placing 26 student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Team, the highest total in the conference.

The 2024 season showcased Manhattan’s ability to compete at the top of the conference, building a foundation centered on culture, discipline, and player development.

Across his first two seasons, Sage has guided Manhattan to several landmark accomplishments, including the program’s first USILA All-American and first two USILA Scholar All-Americans, a MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, and 10 All-MAAC selections across 2024 and 2025. The Jaspers advanced to the 2024 MAAC Championship Game, produced the winningest four-year class in school history with 31 victories, and achieved major academic milestones, highlighted by 26 MAAC All-Academic honorees in 2024, 27 in 2025, and the highest men’s team GPA on campus in 2025 with a 3.51.

Before becoming head coach, Sage helped Manhattan capture the 2022 MAAC Championship and the 2023 MAAC Regular Season Championship as an assistant coach. His previous head-coaching tenures at The University of Scranton and Drew University included multiple postseason berths and sustained program development.

A standout at Gettysburg College from 1995–98, Sage helped the Bullets reach two NCAA Semifinals and served as team captain his senior year. He earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental science in 1998 and later completed his MBA at The University of Scranton.
