RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Seniors Caitlin Bricketto (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Alyssa Rosello (Garden City, N.Y.) were recognized prior to the Manhattan College women’s tennis team’s matchup with Monmouth on Sunday afternoon. They both then went on to win their singles matches, tallying the Jaspers’ (1-9, 0-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) only two points in a 5-2 loss to the Hawks (2-13, 2-3 MAAC) at the Andrew Feinberg Tennis Center at Horace Mann.
Bricketto was matched up against Ashley Sandler at No. 2 singles and came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Rosello, meanwhile, took on Farrah Smoke at No. 3 singles. After claiming the first set in a tiebreak, she easily won the second for a 7-6, 6-1 triumph. The duo also played doubles together and suffered an 8-5 loss to Adriana Armendariz and Ashley Sandler in the No. 1 position.
Monmouth clinched the doubles point when Smoke and Kendal Kauffman notched an 8-1 victory over Gabriella Leon (Woodmere, N.Y.) and Diana Onichshenko (Semey, Kazakhstan) in the No. 2 spot. Kauffman then beat Onichshenko 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to secure the overall match win for the Hawks. Armendariz and Leon, meanwhile, played a competitive match at No. 1 singles that Armendariz won by a 6-4, 7-5 count.
The Jaspers have two matches remaining in the regular season. Manhattan will play its final home match of the year on Wednesday, when Fairfield (5-6, 4-2 MAAC) visits the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
